Our first Palm Springs spot was actually in Cathedral City just a few minutes south of Palm Springs, we spent the first few days lounging in the pool and hot tub. We had a rainy Christmas Day, starting with a very fancy cereal breakfast, and had a PBJ lunch while watching football, and enjoyed a nice home made steak dinner! We had a lovely Christmas over FaceTime with the Risting family!
After Christmas we rented a car to tour around the area a bit more, the first stop on Meghanβs list was a little off the road dinosaur exhibit, itβs gift shop was inside a giant brontosaurus where we spent a good amount of time trying to track down a little allosaurus figurine to go with Meghanβs tooth with no luck. We toured through Palm Springs and later hit the casino and tried our hand at Black Jack leaving with $50 profit!
We decided early on in our trip our this stop we would knock out some maintenance on the rig itself. We had quite the experience here, the main guy was running late, initially 30 minutes, then 45, and a full two and half hours and many board and card games later our brake and oil change was underway. After completing everything six hours later they mentioned their card reader was down and it would have to be cash only which initiated a mild hostage situation until the cash was acquired.
Happy that experience was over we relocated to Palm Desert where we spent New Years. Here we spent most of our time at the camps multiple dog parks, day one Meghan flung Kidaβs frisbee over the 10 foot brick wall that lined the campground. We peaked over and saw the other side was a row of trees and then railroad, with a second frisbee in the rig we chalked it up to an unfortunate loss and moved on. Day two throw four, we were frisbeeless. I spoke with the front desk to see if there was an access to retrieve the frisbees and got a very quick no as response. Google earth however provided much better insight, and we were off on our recovery mission. In total we ventured about two miles but successfully completed the recon mission with both frisbees in hand.
At one of the dog parks we met a lovely golden retriever Hope, and her mother Linda, who happened to have grown up in Duluth! She invited us to play pickleball later that evening. We joined her and another person she had met earlier and enjoyed a few games of pickleball. Their skill level certainly exceeded ours but it was a blast nonetheless! I do however miss our pickleball partners up north, and someday Kristi and Brian we will win a match against you. We ended our last day in Palm Desert with a swim and hot tub, and prepared for the next few days of boondock camping in Joshua Tree!
