Joshua Tree

We spent the next few days boondocking in the desert in Joshua tree. Meghan found a 40 acre property that had awesome views, hiking, and a deck that we throughly enjoyed getting some sun and grilling on.

I discovered here that despite the saying that snakes and coyotes are far more afraid of you than you are of them, is quite simply not true in my case. Night one as soon as the sun started setting we were completely encircled by howling coyotes. Needless to say my stargazing that night was done through the window. The night I was bold enough to lay out on the deck and star gaze Meghan was hissed at by a mystery creature when she stepped off the deck. Feelings validated we hightailed back inside.

Our final day in the desert we experienced the desert winds, sustained at 30mph with gusts up to 45mph. Packing up camp was initially an exfoliating experience, but we eventually had our share of the gratis sand scrub and tasted enough of the desert to wise up and put on our rain jackets. Meghan was kind enough put the jacks up and finish packing the windy side, her glasses kept most of the sand out of her eyes and my safety googles are still tucked away in Duluth. After packing up us and all the animals enjoyed watching hundreds of tumble weeds flying past, before we very slowly rolled out of the desert.

You guys are big fans of the evening primroses, I see! For real though, more plant pics!

Also, I’m not really a desert person, but that setup had me very jealous…
