California Redwoods

We spent a full day adventuring through various state and national Redwood forests. The trees were an astounding feat of nature. I enjoyed geeking out over a few different felled trees, and admiring the grain patterns. The curly grain pattern found on a few trees caused by the stress of the weight of the tree, was stunning.

We unintentionally tested the absolute size limit of the rv on two of these outings. I can assure you thinking skinny and internally pleading with a 1,000 year old tree to scooch over just an inch will not work.

Learning lesson #6 size limit signs at the park entrance are not just for campsite size but also, and very much so, drivability.

At a neck breaking speed of approximately 2 mph we were able to squeeze our way out leaving the ancient trees and RV unscathed.

After hiking around the forests and venturing out to try and spot elk we called it day and continued south, spending the night about 100 miles north of San Francisco.
